The law prohibits political parties from receiving funds from abroad.
Yabloko's Center for Anti-Corruption Policy found that parliamentary parties had received over 1 billion rubles in donations from donors with indications of foreign funding. Yabloko believes that the same criterion should be applied to other participants in the election if it was used to remove the party's federal list.
The Supreme Court removed Yabloko's federal list from the State Duma election following a lawsuit filed by the Rodina party. One of the grounds for the decision was donations from people who, according to a confidential report by Rosfinmonitoring, had themselves received money from abroad. The donations to Yabloko in question totaled 16,900 rubles, although the party had not received the money directly from foreign sources.
On August 14, Yabloko appealed the Supreme Court's ruling. The party argued that the court should either reverse the decision to remove its federal list or apply the same criterion to other parliamentary parties. The ruling does not affect Yabloko candidates running in single-member districts.
